Earlier this year, Yonkers resident Frank Keogh, who worked as a contractor in Hopewell Junction, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in Rockland County Court after his stabbing victim, Pearl River native Eric Leopold, died from more than a dozen stab wounds outside his home.
Leopold, a 50-year-old contractor who officials said was an acquaintance of Keogh, was stabbed 14 times on July 16, 2016. He was in critical condition for more than a week and died from his injuries about 10 days later. Keogh was arrested by state police during a traffic stop in Wappingers Falls
According to reports, an order of protection had been issued ordering Keogh to stay away from his eventual victim.
Keogh, 49, was sentenced to life in prison in Rockland County Court on Wednesday, the maximum sentence allowed. His lawyers had been pushing for a more lenient sentence.
Following the assault on his victim, Keogh was initially charged with attempted murder after being arrested. He was also charged with multiple other felonies including assault and weapons offenses. The charges were upgraded when Leopold died from his wounds.
Keogh has been remanded into the custody of the New York State Department of Corrections.
