Yonkers Man Charged In Alleged Killing Of Wife

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Jose Contreras, 52, of Yonkers was officially charged with second-degree murder on Wednesday in the alleged killing of his wife on Oct. 12.

Sharon Contreras was found with a single gunshot wound to her chest in the hallway outside her 11th floor home on 49 North Broadway.

Jose Contreras was allegedly seen on video surveillance entering the elevator on the 11th floor covered in blood. Police soon located Contreras nearby and arrested him.

District Attorney Janet DiFiore also stated that Contreras had an alleged history of domestic violence and abuse on his wife.

He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 19.

Contreras faces a maximum sentence of twenty five years to life in state prison.
