William Watkins-Gomez was allegedly driving a 2005 Honda Civic on Aug. 4, 2013 when he jumped a curb, sideswiped a building and struck a tree on the west side of South Fifth Avenue, according to the District Attorney's Statement.
Watkins-Gomez' girlfriend was a passenger in the vehicle. She was removed from the wreck and taken to Mount Vernon Hospital where she was pronounced dead, according to the district attorney.
Watkins-Gomez was found to have a blood-alcohol content of .10 and THC, the active ingredient in marijuana was found in his system as well, the district attorney said.
Bail was set at $100,000 for Watkins-Gomez. If convicted, faces a maximum of seven years in prison. His next court date is Friday, Feb. 28, according to the district attorney.
