Yonkers Litterbugs Could Get Whacked With $5,000 Fine

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Litterbugs in Yonkers can expect to get hit with thousands of dollars in fines if they get caught, according to a report by lohud.com.

Yonkers has passed a law that lets it fine litterbugs up to $5,000. It plans to launch an anti-litter campaign this summer with ads posted at city bus stations and on city trash cans.

The city will launch an ad campaign this summer informing the public of the new $5,000 fine and stronger anti-litter law, which was passed Tuesday, lohud.com reported.

Those ads will appear in bus shelters and on city trash cans on well-traveled streets such as Ashburton Avenue, the lohud.com story said.

Once filed with the state, the new law will take effect in 90 days, according to the lohud.com report.
