State police issued an Amber Alert after Kim Woo, the daughter of a police sergeant from Staten Island was taken by her father, Johnny Woo, from a Staten Island home after attacking his wife on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

At the same time as the Amber Alert was issued, Rui and Leoandro Fernandes, of Yonkers, were driving on the Major Deegan Expressway, when they noticed a black 2014 Kia Sorrento matching the description in the Amber Alert changing lanes and driving erratically, said ABC7.

With the car description being flashed on roadway signs and billboards, the two sped up to see if the license plate matched. It did.

The two immediately called 911 and provided the location of the car, but kept following at the same time, reported ABC7

The dad, Rui Fernandes, told the news station that he was worried for the child's safety because of the way Johnny Woo was driving.

The 911 call helped lead a nearby NYPD officer with the department's Officers School Safety Division to the scene where Johnny Woo was pulled over, the station reported.

The father and son are being hailed as heroes. Johnny Woo is was charged with third-degree assault and second-degree harassment, police said.
