A restaurant manager in Long Island succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning while on the job in February, according to a press release from Sabatino's office.
In addition to getting businesses to install detectors, Sabatino is taking the initiative a step further.
"I am proposing an ordinance ... to require any business that serves the public and is housed in a building that burns fossil fuel to install carbon monoxide detectors," Sabatino said in the release. "One detector per 10,000 sq. feet or any part thereof would be required. This will afford protection to the employees as well as to the patrons. It’s a small cost to prevent a tragedy and also reduces the businesses liability."
