The New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services issued an alert this week to Westchester residents regarding the residency of 54-year-old Maurice Mitchell, who has moved from an apartment in Mount Vernon to a residence on Garfield Street in Yonkers.
The Division of Criminal Justice Services has assigned Mitchell as a Level 3 threat, which means he is a “high-risk repeat offender and possible threat to public safety.” He has also been designated as a sexually violent sex offender.
According to the Division of Criminal Justice Services, Mitchell had deviate sexual intercourse and sexual contact with his 10-year-old victim in June 1999. He was convicted of attempted sodomy and deviate intercourse with a minor the following year and sentenced to a term of eight years in state prison. He is now under the jurisdiction of the Mount Vernon City Police Department.
