Volunteers in the park recently noticed the discharge and notified local and state officials. The contaminated water landed in the lake through a storm drain that drains into Tibbetts Brook, said lohud.com.
John Butler, the ecological project manager at the Friends of the Van Cortlandt Park, told lohud.com that the bacteria exceeds federal standards and is coming from pipes connected to nearby homes and building, added lohuh.com.
Yonkers spokesman Vincent Parise said the city's engineering department has located some of the leaks and would begin fixing them with an epoxy liner, said lohud.com.
