YONKERS, N.Y. Scheduled maintenance on Palmer Road may create some headaches for motorists in Yonkers.
The city began a water main valve replacement project on the road Monday, from Fero Street to Saw Mill River Road. City officials warned this section of Palmer Road will be closed to all eastbound traffic and a detour will remain in effect 24 hours a day until completion of the project, expected during the week of July 23.
While this roadwork may be a temporary inconvenience for local drivers, the improvements will provide for the long-term sustainability of our citys water system, Mayor Mike Spano said in a news release.
While the two driveway entrances to St, Bartholomews Church parking lot on Palmer Road will also be closed to cars, driveway access will be maintained to the lot via the Roosevelt Street entrance/exit.
According to the citys Department of Engineering, water service for residents and businesses in the area should not be affected. Any interruption to water service related to this project would be temporary, lasting no longer eight hours.
