New Animal Shelter Opens In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y.-- Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano attended the ribbon cutting for a new animal shelter in Yonkers on Monday.

The new shelter replaces the city’s old 9,200 sq ft facility, which began operation in the 1960’s. The old facility had several design deficiencies, which made it difficult to clean the kennels and lacked proper air ventilation and purification systems.

The new 11,000 sq ft facility is equipped with modern indoor and outdoor kennels, separate intake and adoption areas, modern medical facilities and meet-and-greet spaces where visitors can get to know their prospective new pets. The city hopes these improvements will help drive more visitors to adopt rescue animals.

The new animal shelter is at 1000 Ridge Hill Boulevard in Yonkers.
