The bus arrived at the Port of Monrovia in early December where after clearance and inspection, the Academy's founder a Rotarian Sam Enders brought it to the school.
The bus is 36-feet long and weighs 18,000 pounds. Built in 2001, it has about 110,000 miles.
Enders had been working in Monrovia on alleviating the sufferings caused by the Ebola virus in Liberia.
The African Dream Academy had a school bus, but it had to be turned over to the local hospital for use as a ambulance for patients.
In a message to Enders, Rotary Club President, the Rev. J. Loren Russell said he hoped the bus would "provide more than mobile transport, but will bring your students to places and heights your students could have never imagined."
Nick and Phil Vallone, who own a bus company in Yonkers , donated the used bus from their inventory to the club.
A fundraiser at Yonkers Brewing Company helped pay for shipping costs.
The bus company also fixed up the bus, and had it driven to the dock in New Jersey for loading on the ship.
The New York Foundation also contributed to the effort.
