He is one of 114 students who will engage in faculty-mentored research and creative projects this summer at the university in Philadelphia, Pa., according to a news release from St. Joseph’s on MeritPages.com.
Nguyen, a biology and interdisciplinary health services major, will work with Karen Snetselaar on the topic titled, “Role of Cyclic AMP and protein kinase A in the transition of budding to filamentous grown of corn smut.”
The Summer Scholars Program runs for 11 weeks of summer vacation and requires students to work with faculty members to write a description of their research, which will be published by the school, according to the release. They are also required to present their findings next spring during a celebration of student achievement.
According to release from St. Joseph's, Nguyen previously gave up some of his winter break in January to travel with 14 other students to Nicaragua to learn about the country’s health-care issues.
