YONKERS, N.Y. - With temperatures continuing to plummet and snow expected in the Hudson Valley on Saturday, Yonkers has opened several warming centers throughout the city to help those in need brave the cold.

Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano announced that the city will designate several locations around the city as warming centers for the next few days as the area battles the frigid temperatures. Temperatures are expected to dip into the 20s, with wind chills as low as 20 degrees below zero.

“As we enter the winter season, we will make warming centers available to all residents in need of a warm place to rest,” Spano said in a statement. “I especially encourage our city’s older adults, residents with medical conditions, and those working outside to please stay safe and utilize a warming center located nearest to you if needed.”

The following locations will be serving as a warming center this weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Yonkers:

  • Peter Chema Center - 435 Riverdale Ave.
  • Coyne Park Community Center - 777 McLean Ave.
  • Nodine Hill Community Center - 140 Fillmore St.
  • Yonkers Riverfront Library - 1 Larkin Center
  • Grinton I. Will Library - 1500 Central Park Ave.
  • Crestwood Library - 16 Thompson St.
