Presented by the Women’s Choice Award, the recognition places St. John’s Riverside Hospital in the top 7 percent of breast care hospitals nationwide.
“As a breast cancer survivor, I learned the hard way that where you choose to have your mammogram can have a profound impact on your outcome and experience,” said Delia Passi, founder and CEO of the Women’s Choice Award. Passi was the victim of poor imaging and misdiagnosis herself, prior to doctors discovering her breast cancer at the age of 42. This difficult experience inspired her to the create the Women’s Choice Award.
“We empower women to make educated, confident decisions about their health,” she said. “By identifying 'America’s Best Breast Centers,' we’re helping women find the top accredited centers in their communities.”
St. John’s Riverside Hospital and 352 other award winners were selected as breast centers that have met the highest standards of care in the nation.
“We are very proud of the Ashikari Breast Center and all the employees that work across the hospital to serve our patients battling breast cancer," said Ron Corti, president and CEO of St. John's Riverside. "Congratulations to the entire team who have worked together to develop and implement approaches and strategies that have the potential to improve care for the patients in our community.”
According to the American Cancer Society, roughly one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, ultimately making it the second leading cause of cancer deaths in women.
