What's Happening This Weekend In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. – From Summerfest to book sales, here’s what’s happening around Yonkers this weekend.

Friday, July 20

Fun on Fridays- Board Games: 2 p.m. Come and play board games in the children's room. There is no registration required. The children’s room of the Will Branch of the Yonkers Library is located at 1500 Central Park Ave.

Internet For Beginners: 10 a.m. Hands-on class about the characteristics of the Internet, navigation and simple searching, Internet terminology, Internet safety and use of search engines. Participants must have basic keyboard and mouse skills. The Riverfront Branch of the Yonkers Public Library is located at 1 Larkin Center.

Jazz & Blues at Dusk: 6:30 p.m. The Friday night summer concert series continues with “An Evening with Annette St. John and Deforest Raphael.” The Yonkers Amphitheatre is located at the end of Main Street.

Saturday, July 21

City of Yonkers Budget Overview: 9 a.m. Join Council member Christopher Johnson for an informational session for the public as he gives an overlook of the city budget. The Riverfront Branch of the Yonkers Public Library is located at 1 Larkin Center.

Summerfest: Beczak Annual Summer Celebration for Families: 3 p.m. Enjoy Catch of the Day Seining and participate in the Great Hudson River Fish Count. NYSDEC will tabulate fish counts caught as part of Beczak's seining program. At 4 p.m., see performances by Yonkers Idol winners. From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., take out a kayak or choose a canoe ride with the Yonkers Paddling and Rowing Club. At 5 p.m., there will be a drum performance by the Nepperhan Drum Corps and at 7 p.m., have fun roasting marshmallows over a campfire. All afternoon: kids make fish print flags, frolic in sprinklers and everyone can enjoy a barbecue and Italian ice. A number of free activities, reasonable fee for food and drinks. Beczak on the riverfront is located at 35 Alexander St., one block north of the Yonkers train station.

25 and 50 Cent Book Sale: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thousands of used books, records, cassettes and DVDs at 25 cents and 50 cents will be on sale when the Friends of Yonkers Public Library sponsor a “Hot Summer Book Sale.” Thousands of items on a variety of subjects perfect for summer reading and enjoyment will be available for sale. The Will Branch of the Yonkers Library is located at 1500 Central Park Ave.

Worldfest 2012: The Beauty of India: 7:30 p.m. Untermyer Park’s music and dance journey around the world series continues with a performance of the Beauty of India. Admission is free. Bring your own seat. Untermyer Park is located at 945 N. Broadway.

Sunday, July 22

Art & Science Sundays: 2 p.m. Come aboard the Science Barge. On Sunday see Jacob Kim and the Dynamics of Juggling presentation. For more info, visit www.groundworkhv.org, or call 914-375-2151. The Science Barge is located at 99 Dock St.

The Marshall Tucker Band in concert: 5 p.m. One of the major Southern rock bands of the '70s, the Marshall Tucker Band. The group's style is a combination of rock, country and jazz and some extended instrumental passages. The band was signed to Capricorn Records and released their debut album, The Marshall Tucker Band. The Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway is located at 810 Yonkers Ave.
