What's Happening In Yonkers This Weekend

YONKERS, N.Y. – From catching fish to family night out, here’s what’s happening around Yonkers this weekend. Check out our events page for more listings.

Friday

Family Night Out: 4 p.m. This family-friendly event features the sing-along rock band “Yosi and the Superdads” as well as “Jukebox Heroes,” a musical impersonation show saluting stars including the Beatles, Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson. Admission is free. Westchester’s Ridge Hill Center, 1 Ridge Hill Road.

Jazz and Blues at Dusk: 6:30 p.m. The summer concert series continues with Vanessa Falabella. Yonkers Amphitheatre, end of Main Street.

Free Friday Nights: 5 p.m. Free admission to the Hudson River Museum and free planetarium show at 7 p.m. Inside you can enjoy exhibits such as “Gilded Age Magic” and “Westchester Women & War: Portraits.” Hudson River Museum, 511 Warburton Ave.

Saturday

WorldFest 2012: 7:30 p.m. Untermyer Park’s music and dance journey around the world continues with a performance of “Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company.” Admission is free. Bring your own seat. Untermyer Park, 945 N. Broadway.

NAACP: 2 p.m. Interested children should head to the Yonkers Library for the youth membership meeting. Community Room A, Riverfront Branch, Yonkers Public Library, 1 Larkin Center.

Sunday

Catch of the Day Seining: 10 a.m. Wade into the Hudson River, drag a 30 foot net through the water and try your hand at catching fish and other river creatures. Led by Beczak educators, rain or shine, and waterproof overalls provided. Cost is $5 per person. Beczak Environmental Education Center, 35 Alexander St., Yonkers.

Art and Science Sundays: Blue Crab Blitz: Noon. The Science Barge’s summer activity calendar continues with “Blue Crab Blitz.” Try your hand at catching crabs and learn about the barge. Science Barge, 99 Dock St.

Recycled Portraits: 1 p.m. Head to the museum for creative activities for families based on the museum’s exhibitions. On Sunday, make a portrait with recycled materials. Hudson River Museum, 511 Warburton Ave.

Sara Evans Live in Concert: 6:30 p.m. The Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway’s summer concert series concludes with a trackside performance by county music star Sara Evans. Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway, 810 Yonkers Ave.
