Westchester's Ridge Hill In Yonkers Plans HarvestFest On Oct. 26

YONKERS, N.Y. -- Westchester's Ridge Hill will celebrate fall with HarvestFest 2013 on Saturday, Oct. 26, with seasonal activities available for the entire family.

Children are invited in Halloween costumes to visit the Mommy Poppins booth in Town Square for complimentary trick-or-treat bags and arts and crafts.

Kids can also participate in face-painting activities, Jack-O-Lantern sticker crafts with Showcase Cinema de Lux, and vist the Whole Foods Market tent for natural pumpkin decorating and Halloween treats. The LEGOLAND Discovery Center will take $3 off admission that day for kids in costume.

Orange Blot Art Spot contemporary art lab will lead a chalk-painting activity and the creation of a Harvest Mural. Sur La Table will have cookie decorating and Frannie’s Goodie Shop’s will offer apple pie and pumpkin frozen yogurt samplings, complete with seasonal toppings.

The festivities will culminate in a rousing musical performance by renowned children’s rock band, The Deedle Deedle Dees. The group uses rock-n-roll, country, hip hop, New Orleans piano music, punk and folk music to teach kids about American history, social action and the natural world.

Ridge Hill is also partnering with Hudson Valley’s Friends of the Farmer, Farm On! organization, which supports family farms and builds community awareness around local food sources.

The “Ridge Hill Chef Series at HarvestFest" will have chefs from Ridge Hill restaurants collaborating with local farmers to create harvest samplings, seasonal recipes and presentations using farm fresh ingredients.

Local farmers will alsol be on hand selling harvest goods, such as apples, maple syrup, apple cider and other fall treats.

Oasis Day Spa will be giving Fall Skin Care Mini-Treatments, featuring their newest skincare line, Eminence. Retailers Dick’s, Orvis and L.L. Bean will be conducting outdoor sports workshops on activities like golfing, fly-fishing, kayaking and a tutorial on “How to Pack Your Pack.”
