The targeted enforcement detail was conducted over three hours by Yonkers Police, which ended up impounding nearly 30 mopeds, scooters, and motorcycles, the department said on Friday, Oct. 11.

According to the department, the vehicles were taken off the road for reasons such as registration and equipment violations and reckless driving. Additionally, more than 50 summonses were issued during the crackdown.

The day did not only result in summonses: the department also arrested 26-year-old Bronx resident Jacob Navarro Salguero, who allegedly recklessly drove his black Yamaha motorcycle through rush hour traffic with no license plate, speeding dangerously in the process, police said.

Navarro was later apprehended and charged with reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation for having 16 active suspensions on his license, the department added.

The department said that the "dangerous and unlawful operation of recreational vehicles" is one of the community's "top complaints," and that they would continue to focus on taking illegal vehicles off the city's roads.

Since the department's last targeted enforcement detail in May, almost 200 illegal mopeds, motorcycles, scooters, and recreational vehicles have been removed from Yonkers roadways, totaling almost 300 for the entire year.
