The incident happened on Thursday morning, Nov. 14, when a student brought a knife into Gorton High School in Yonkers. A dispute that ensued resulted in an injury, Yonkers Police announced just before 10:30 a.m.

The student responsible for the incident was taken into custody, police said, adding that there is no active threat to the school. However, the campus was placed on lockdown as authorities continued their investigation.

The injured student is in stable condition.

All other students are now safe, police said, adding that the lockdown was lifted by 11:30 a.m. and students resumed their normally scheduled day.

Because there is no active threat to the school, families do not need to pick up their children. However, those who wish to do so can enter the building from Palisade Avenue and enter the school's front doors. There, they will need to show ID and check in with administrators, police said.

The department may release more information at a later time, police said.
