Yonkers Urgent Care Center Fills Niche In City

YONKERS, N.Y. – Yonkers residents in a pinch have a new option for their medical emergencies.

Anthony Ruvo, CEO of the recently opened Southern Westchester Urgent Care center on Central Park Avenue, said Thursday his office will fill a void in the city, helping parents and residents in need of quick medical attention.

“You can get in here in 20 minutes as opposed to hours at the ER or days at a doctor’s office,” he said.

The state-of-the-art facility at 1915 Central Park Ave., opened for business early this summer but employees and city officials celebrated the officials unveiling Thursday. Outside the offices, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and City Council President Chuck Lesnick welcomed the group to Yonkers.

“This type of facility is very much needed and has been placed in the right spot,” Spano said. “I think it will be very well received by residents of our great city.”

The new facility will have about a dozen doctors and medical personnel and features eight exam rooms, X-ray facilities, consultation rooms and a medical lab. Ruvo said it will have the ability to handle all types of urgent care needs, from bone fractures to administering stitches.

Ruvo said he recognizes the fact many Yonkers residents are constantly on the go and feels his center fills a niche in the city.

“Much of the community is active and involved in activities,” he said. “Here, you can get immediate medical attention that isn’t available elsewhere.”

Since opening earlier this year, Ruvo said the response from Yonkers has been better than expected.

“We are ahead of our performance schedule,” he said. “We hope it remains that way.”
