Tummolo grew up in the Bryn Mawr section of Yonkers. She had the honor of representing the Italian-American community as Miss Columbus 2009 in the Yonkers Columbus Day Parade. She is a graduate of Maria Regina High School and Capri Institute of Cosmetology, and has taken classes at Concordia College and Westchester Community College. Gianna plans on receiving her degree in business management, in the near future.
Her family hails from the provinces and regions of Potenza, Basilicata and Catania, Sicily. With the support of her family, she worked hard and followed her dreams opening the GlamBar beauty salon at 2168 Central Park Ave. in 2015.
GlamBar is a boutique hair salon, which offers salon, make-up services or both. Tummolo’s mother, Gina, helped design the salon, while her father, Frank, and brother, Frank Jr., made the appropriate renovations of the salon.
“I started GlamBar to be a place to do great hair and build a brand that helps make women and girls of all age’s look and feel beautiful," Tummolo said. "We encourage our clients to feel beautiful on the inside and really show them how good they can look on the outside. It’s not just a hair salon, I’ve worked hard to create a comfortable, inspiring and welcoming environment for all to enjoy!”
Mike Ruggiero, president of the John D. Calandra Lodge said “Gianna is what our culture and heritage symbolize, a proud young Italian-American woman, who had a dream of creating her own business, accomplishing it with hard work, determination and of course succeeding with flying colors!”
For the upcoming prom season, GlamBar will be open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All local high school girls will have their hair and make-up done for $125, and all girls from Maria Regina High School can have their hair and make-up done for $100.
