Wplj To Sign Off The Air After 48-Year Run After nearly a half-century playing hits in the tristate area, WPLJ will be signing off for the last time later this month. The popular radio station, which played its first song in 1971, announced on Wednesday, May 8 that it would be closing its doors on May 31. Westchester DJ Harks Back To Days Of Vinyl In New Radio Show Jimmy Fink is a radio aficionado, so much so that the Scarsdale DJ who currently works at 107.1 The Peak in North White Plains, remembers the days of vinyl.  At home, in fact, he has a wall of records --he was even mentioned in the short-lived HBO series, "Vinyl." The longtime radio personality -- he worked 25 years spinning tunes and interviewing rockers at New York City-based WPLJ and K-Rock -- wanted to bring back a vibe that longtime rock fans seem to crave.
