White Plains Seeks First Win in Mount Vernon

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The White Plains football team may be the best team in Section 1 without a win, a fact the Tigers would love to change Saturday when they travel to Mount Vernon High School for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

The Tigers (0-2), who were edged by North Rockland 15-14 on opening night and suffered a 21-14 loss to unbeaten Clarkstown North last week, face the Knights (1-2), who come off their first win of the season.

White Plains quarterback Jeff Avery struggle with the passing game in the first game but threw two touchdown passes last week. Terrell Meads caught a touchdown pass for 38 yards and Ryan Brooks grabbed one for an 11-yard score. Speed back Darrell Everett, who had two big-play scores in the opener, ran one in from 36 yards out.

Mount Vernon rolled over Lincoln (Yonkers) 52-0 to end its two-game losing streak, proving it has the fire power to score a lot of points.

The Tigers will not be as easy a mark as Lincoln with an active defense that nearly led to a win over North Rockland.  Look for White Plains to score with the big play and stop the Knights offense to earn that elusive first victory.
