White Plains Football Seeks First Win Saturday

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – The White Plains High School football team will once again try for its first win of the season when it hosts John Jay East Fishkill on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

The Tigers have come close in each of their games this season but ultimately fell short each time. White Plains opened the season against Harrison, perhaps the strongest team in Class A, and had a halftime lead but lost by 10.

White Plains then faced rival New Rochelle in a sloppy game and kept it close but turnovers did the Tigers in and they lost, 14-0. Finally, White Plains lost a wild 34-33 overtime game to Scarsdale in week three.

The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in the section, and unfortunately, they do not get a break against John Jay, a team that sits at 2-1 on the season with the lone loss against undefeated North Rockland.

White Plains will have its hands full with the Patriots, but the Tigers have a few things working in their favor. Firstly, Brandon Williams put up a solid performance against Scarsdale as he rattled off a 60-yard touchdown run and a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

If he can get going on Saturday, it will make the day much easier for White Plains.

Secondly, the Tigers have put forth solid efforts in every game this year against top competition and have stayed in each contest. White Plains nearly had its first win against Scarsdale but failed on a two-point conversion attempt in overtime that would have won the game.

Eventually, the Tigers will likely figure out a way to win a close game and could do so against John Jay if things break the right way.

The schedule continues to toughen more for White Plains as the Tigers will face North Rockland in week five.
