The Tigers fought back from deficits of 7-0, 14-6 and 20-6 before falling to the unbeaten Crusaders (11-0), who advanced to the state championship game at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse on Sunday, Dec. 1.
White Plains finished its season at 8-2 after going 1-7 last fall. The Tigers won their first Section 1 (Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Dutchess counties) Class AA championship since 1979 and reached the state playoffs for the first time since the public school football tournament began in 1993.
Cole Gennett scored on an 8-yard run to give Monroe-Woodbury a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter and again in third quarter to make the score 20-6.
Adrian Cruz recovered a blocked Monroe-Woodbury punt and ran five yards for a Tigers touchdown to cut the deficit to 14-6 early in the third quarter.
Chris Jordan's 72-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter for White Plains made the score 20-13.
Monroe-Woodbury's quarterback Kevin Carr scored two of his three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to extend the lead and final score to 34-13.
