Gilligan-Evans Selected for Golden Dozen Honors

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Stepinac High School football star Caleb Gilligan-Evans was selected as one of this year’s Golden Dozen scholar/athletes for the past fall football season.

“It’s a great honor to named Golden Dozen,” said Gilligan-Evans, who will attend Yale University next fall. “It’s especially good to be named with my teammate Austin Taps. I think it speaks very highly of Stepinac and our coaching staff.”

The Golden Dozen is chosen by the Westchester Chapter of the National Football Foundation every year and include the top scholar-athletes on the football field from the recently completed fall season. The players will be honored at the National Football Foundation Awards Banquet at Westchester Country Club in Harrison on Jan. 26.

Gilligan-Evans, a two-way player at fullback and linebacker, was part of the 2010-2011 Crusaders team that went 12-0 and helped the Crusaders to a Catholic High Schools Football League AA title. He rushed for 795 yards and nine touchdowns and caught eight passes for 152 yards this fall as Stepinac reached the CHSFL AAA title game against eventual champion St. Anthony’s.

A total of 38 students were honored from Westchester and Putnam counties, including the “Golden Dozen,” and the 26 honorable mention honorees.
