Bernies Top Pleasantville, Valhalla in Opener

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y – The White Plains Bernies Youth Football club earned its first wins of the season Saturday with opening-day victories over the Valhalla Vikings and Pleasantville Panthers at White Plains Middle School.

The Bernies fifth- and sixth grade team took the Vikings 29-13 while the third- and fourth-grade Bernies defeated Pleasantville 21-6.

Otis Allen rushed for two touchdowns and passed for a third score to Spencer Lodes for the 5-6 grade Bernies. Paul Rand ran one in from 20 yards and the offensive line provided great blocking with big holes to run through.

The defense was led by Matt DiSanto, who had two quarterback sacks.

The Bernies next play Sunday at White Plains High School in the "The 53rd Annual Bernie Bowl", which will feature all three tackle teams playing and the Bernies cheerleaders entertaining during the game and at halftime of each game. Games begin at 4:30, 6 and 7:30 p.m.

The Bernies will also honor past players who are currently playing high school football.
