Westchester Students Kick Off County's Week Of Service

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Westchester County high school students have kicked off a week of good deeds known as “Upstander Week.”

Thousands of students will “return to their school and take up a cause where they can make a difference,” said County Executive Rob Astorino in a proclamation.

The effort is sponsored by the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center in White Plains.

Area high schools started Upstander Week events Monday.

Sleepy Hollow High School students are spending their week planning a concert to benefit people impacted by the earthquake in Nepal, according to a press release. They plan to have the concert in early June.

Ossining High School students are raising money for “The Thirst Project,” which is an organization of young water activists. The group’s aim is to educate people across the world about the potential perils of consuming dirty water.
