Ahearn’s three children, Joey, Danny and Mikey, graduated from the White Plains Catholic school in 2003, 2005 and 2009, respectively. On April 14, she will be honored during the Lady Crusaders annual luncheon and fashion show at the Renaissance Westchester Hotel in West Harrison.
“Stepinac High School has had such a resounding positive effect on the lives of my sons over the years,” Ahearn said in a statement. “So, being honored as Mother of the Year means a lot to me and I am happy to continue my efforts for the betterment of the school.”
When her oldest son Joey enrolled at Stepinac in 1999, Ahearn became a member of the Lady Crusaders Club, made up of mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers and other female guardians who provide fundraising and social events to raise money for the school. She was team mom for the junior varsity and varsity lacrosse and hockey teams and volunteered with Stepinac’s public relations committee over the last three years.
Ahearn said in the statement that she remembered one event in particular.
“It was a fundraiser for Nick Springer, who was my son Joey’s classmate. He contracted a meningitis virus, which resulted in his losing his arms and legs. The money raised from the event was used to purchase prosthetics for him. It was an amazing event with over 1,000 people at the Rye Town Hilton, including school athletes and even professional basketball players, hockey players, radio announcers and actors.”
The mother of three has been volunteering since her children began their schooling at Scarborough Presbyterian Nursery School in 1988. She continued to volunteer at St. Theresa School in Briarcliff Manor, where her children went to elementary school.
