The managing editor of the school newspaper, the Orange, completes his high school career with a weighted 5.1 grade point average. He plans to attend Williams College and major in political science. But, he's not mapping out the rest of his life just yet.
"I hope to do a bit of exploring before I declare a major," he said.
Ringel also enjoyed his classes in government, history, English and calculus. Success wasn't limited to just the classroom. The Temple Israel Center congregant served as president of his synagogue's chapter of United Synagogue Youth (USY). After school, he also shared his knowledge and time at Temple Israel Center's religious school as a third-grade teacher's aide.
Sitting in physics class one day, Ringel's high school counselor Karen Day pulled him out to spring the news that he had made valedictorian.
"To be honest, my initial reaction was one of shock," he said. "I had no idea that I was ranked that highly. For me, this honor is the result of all of my hard work throughout high school. It shows that it has paid off."
The last few weeks have been surreal for Ringel, who is still digesting the idea of his high school days coming to a close.
"I know that I will always remember and cherish the relationships I have formed throughout my years in high school, both with friends and teachers," Ringel said. "I also know that I am leaving high school with an education that will propel me to success in college and beyond."
