School Picnic Brings White Plains Families Together

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Kelly Bravo, 8, had her face painted at the Post Road back-to-school picnic, one of her favorite activities at the annual event.

Like Kelly, William White, 6, enjoyed the many activities and games, which also included an arts and crafts table, sack races, spoon and egg races, balloon races and tug of war.

"We come every year," said Michael White, William's father. "It's a good time to get together with everyone."

Michael said it can be hard to find time to meet and get together with other families, making PTA-sponsored events like this important. Lawrence Perretto, whose daughter Olivia, 6, also attends Post Road school, agrees.

"Being my wife and I are teachers, we recognize the importance of things like this," Perretto said.

Lawrence and his wife both teach in the Mamaroneck School District. They met 12 years ago at Hommocks Middle School, where they both teach.

"This is one of the kids' favorites because it’s still hot outside and the kids like to run around and dance to the music," said Kendra Raffington, a member of the Post Road PTA.

The Post Road School PTA has a Halloween event in October and Springfest, its biggest fundraiser of the year.
