New Provost Appointed At Berkeley College

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Berkeley College recently named a new provost when it appointed Marianne Vakalis to the job.

Vakalis has served as interim provost since January.

“Dr. Vakalis has demonstrated her commitment to academic excellence while serving in numerous leadership roles at Berkeley College as well as at other institutions of higher learning,” Dario Cortes, the college's president, said in a statement. “I look forward to working closely with Dr. Vakalis as we continue to strengthen our academic offerings and position Berkeley College for the future.”

Vakalis began her tenure at Berkeley as dean for academic affairs in November 2004. In September 2006, she was promoted to vice president for academic affairs. Vakalis was appointed to the position of associate provost for faculty affairs in July 2009 and served as interim provost of Berkeley College from January to June 2013.

Vakalis has an EdD in educational leadership from Western Michigan University, an MEd in educational technology from the University of Bath, England and a BS in mathematics and computer science from the University of Hull, in England.

A leader in business education for more than 80 years, Berkeley College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and enrolls more than 7,700 students in its baccalaureate and associate degree and certificate programs. Programs are offered in more than 20 career fields.
