Mamaroneck Avenue School Holds Reading Rally

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck Avenue Elementary School held a pep rally Tuesday to garner support for a national reading initiative and introduce students to the New Rochelle Humane Society, which will benefit from the school's charity project this year.

The entire student body gathered in the gym where the Parents As Reading Partners (PARP) got its official White Plains kickoff. The national program aims to foster a love of reading in children by having parents spend 15 minutes a day reading with their kids.

Gus, the school therapy dog, was also in attendance at the rally. Nearly 600 voices welcomed the dog to Mamaroneck Avenue in a song with lyrics relating to him.
