Eight White Plains Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Eight White Plains High School students were named semifinalists in the 2012 National Merit Scholarship Competition, with less than 1 percent of high school seniors nationally earning this title.

The following White Plains seniors have been selected as semifinalists because they have demonstrated exceptional academic success: Matthew Africano, Aneesh Bhattacharya, Emmett Caruso, Isabelle Daly, Adam Jaffe, Jens Sannerud, Eric Smiley, and Benjamin Van Doren. 

The eight students will compete with other semifinalists for 8,300 scholarships, worth approximately $34 million total. 

National Merit Scholarship finalists will be announced in February and scholarship winners will be revealed in spring 2012.
