Weiden will help to develop HGAR’s policies and objectives involving local, state, and federal government affairs, as well as analyze proposed legislative actions and their potential impact on the Association.

In addition, he will be monitoring legislative and regulatory activities, recommending Association positions and coordinating initiatives for the Realtors’ Political Action Committee (RPAC).

Prior to joining HGAR, Weiden worked with the Long Island Board of Realtors (LIBOR) for seven years as its Legislative Liaison. At LIBOR, he lobbied the local law makers in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens for fair housing legislation that sought to crack down on Co-op apartment discrimination.

He was successful at getting laws passed in Suffolk County and the Village of Hempstead that sought to end discriminatory practices.  He also won a $5,000 dollar grant from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) to host a Fair Housing Conference on Co-op Discrimination and inform the Realtor members about Suffolk County’s new source of income law.

In addition, Weiden advocated for both mandate relief and the New York State property tax cap, which has kept the growth of property taxes in check.  He served as Acting Government Affairs Director while the current director was out on medical leave.

Before joining LIBOR, Weiden worked with Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi in his Constituent Affairs Office.  He also worked with Congressman Gary Ackerman in both Washington D.C. and in the District Office in Bayside Queens.  In 2008, he served as Assembly Member Charles Lavine’s Campaign Coordinator.

The Hudson Gateway Association of Realtors  is a not-for-profit trade association covering over 9,500 real estate professionals doing business in Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, and Orange counties.
