New York Times Slams Cuomo As 'Nonparticipant' In Hudson River Cleanup

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The New York Times slammed Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his apparent hands-off approach to dealing with General Electric's conclusion of a six-year, $1 billion campaign to cleanup a mess of their own making in the Hudson River in an editorial Friday.

As the company is readying to end its efforts to clean up toxic chemicals it had previously dumped in the river north of Albany, scientists and environmental activists are making desperate pleas to state and federal offices to force General Electric to finish the job, according to the editorial.

Cuomo, who the paper claims should be among the loudest cheerleaders for the clean river cause, has instead been a "nonparticipant." The editorial accuses the governor of keeping the state Department of Environmental Conservation from involvement in the case in favor of federal authorities.
