Jasmine Marrero, 21, was arrested, charged with second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony, and held for court.
A store employee said that Marrero tried to pay for a 40-inch Vizio television on Jan. 31 with four $100 American Express checks, according to the police report. The cashier realized the checks were fraudulent because two had the same serial number, the report said.
Police contacted the American Express fraud department, which confirmed the checks were fraudulent. The serial numbers on each of the checks began with the letters “GB,” which are only used on $1,000 checks.
