PAWLING, N.Y. A White Plains man driving in Dutchess County was found by New York State Police trapped in his overturned car and injured, after hitting a tree at a high speed, according to a police news release.
Christopher Webb, 32, was later charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, speeding and first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a felony. An investigation revealed his driver's license was suspended earlier this year for another driving offense involving alcohol or drugs.
A witness told police, that a car moving at a high rate of speed in the town of Pawling Friday shortly after 9 p.m., drove off the east shoulder of West Dover Road and into a tree, uprooting the tree and overturning his 2008 Volkswagen Beetle, .
The car slid across a private driveway and hit a second tree, while the tree from the first collision hit a trailer parked in the driveway.
Webb was trapped inside the car and initially unconscious, but his passenger Carmelo . Rivera, 60, of Wingdale, flagged down state troopers, who removed Webb from the car. Troopers noted a strong odor of alcohol on Webb's breath.
Webb and Rivera were taken to St. Francis Hospital. Webb was treated for head trauma, lung contusions and possible spinal fractures, none of which were life threatening. Rivera was treated for a large laceration and contusion to his head and then discharged.
Webb was issued tickets to appear in the town of Pawling Court on July 24, 2012, and released to medical staff.
