WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – A White Plains man was arrested in a stairway of the Galleria Mall parking garage and charged with possession of marijuana, police said.
Police checking the garage Saturday night smelled what they thought was marijuana coming from a stairwell and found four people. One of the four, Da’Jon Barrett, 59, had a partially smoked hand-rolled cigarette that police believed to contain marijuana. When the Barrett saw police, he tried to hide the butt, police said.
Barrett was arrested and charged with criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. A search revealed a clear plastic bag of suspected marijuana in the man's pants pocket.
Police searched the other three people but found nothing illegal.
Barrett was given a Jan. 31 return date in City Court.
