On Thursday, acting Westchester County District Attorney James McCarty announced that Tyrone Mushatt has been arraigned on an indictment charging him with 17 felony charges of criminal possession of a forged instrument and a misdemeanor charge of fifth-degree conspiracy.
According to McCarty, between May 11, 2012 and Oct. 31, 2014, Mushatt submitted 17 forged transcripts from Westchester Community College to seven colleges and universities in an effort to expedite the transfer of eight of his players.
Mushatt is charged with mailing, faxing or hand delivering the forged transcripts to Wilmington University, Farmingdale State College, the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University, St. John’s University, Quinnipiac University, Concordia College and Florida A&M University.
The investigation into the illegal transcript scheme initially was initially sparked when multiple organizations - including the New York State Office of the Inspector General, the State University of New York Chancellor’s Office and the National Junior College Athletic Association - all received information regarding the fraud.
After being arrested on Oct. 29 last year, Mushatt pleaded not guilty and was released on his own recognizance. He is due back in court on Thursday, Sept. 1 where he faces a maximum of seven years in prison.
