Westchester Authorities Beef Up Anti-Terrorism Security For Thanksgiving

As residents prepare for the upcoming holidays, law enforcement agencies from Westchester and Putnam counties are busy beefing up security to make sure residents are safe from terrorism.

Since 2004, state law enforcement agencies have taken part in "Operation Safeguard," an effort geared to educate, promote and remind citizens that the threat of terrorism is ongoing and continued vigilance by the public, business sectors and law enforcement is essential for the public’s safety.

During the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, officers will be conducting periodic security checks of religious facilities, train stations, commuter parking lots, bus routes, shopping malls, and public parks where holiday events may be held.

Residents may notice more police officers on patrol during the holiday weekend. This increased uniform presence is not because there is a renewed threat to their safety; it is simply part of law enforcement's counter-terrorism strategy.

They are also asking residents to be on alert as well, as to remember, "If You See Something, Say Something."

Other reminders include:

Do not confront suspicious individuals
Don't reveal your suspicions to the individuals.
Do record as man details as possible.
