Suspect ID'd In Police Chase That Ends With Crash Near Westchester Airport

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A 35-year-old man from Norwalk, Conn., is in custody after an incident in which shots were fired and a victim struck by a car on Monday near King Street in Greenwich, Conn., police said.

The suspect later crashed his vehicle about 11:30 a.m. near the Westchester County Airport while fleeing, according to police.

Matthew C. Ilchert was held by Westchester County Police and may be turned over to Greenwich police for additional charges, according to a county police spokesman.

No one was shot in the earlier incident, as reported here by Daily Voice.

Ilchert was held on charges of driving while intoxicated, possession of a weapon and possession of stolen property, according to county police. An officer found a weapon on the ground near the car; it appeared to have been thrown out of the car by Ilchert, police said. After the accident, Ilchert was treated for minor injuries at the Westchester Medical Center.

Traffic was diverted near the airport's cellphone parking lot as emergency crews spread sand on a fuel spill. A guard rail was damaged by the wreck.

The county road was reopened by 1:15 p.m., according to a witness.
