"Allow adjustments to your schedule to ensure safe travel or simply avoid unnecessary travel," police said in a statement. "If you must drive, use extreme caution and drive slow."
State police provided these tips in the event drivers must venture out into the snow:
- Make sure your car is stocked with survival gear like blankets, a shovel, flashlight with batteries, extra warm clothing, quick energy foods, jumper cables, and tire chains if you have them.
- Leave extra space between you and the vehicle in front of you.
- Keep your gas tank as full as possible in the event that you are stranded or stuck in traffic. Top off windshield washer fluid to ensure a clean windshield.
- Check your tires for quality tread and proper inflation.
- Keep your cell phone battery charged and keep it with you whenever traveling. If you should become stranded, you will be able to call for help, advising rescuers of your location.
- Lastly, make sure someone knows your travel plans and routes.
