According to police, shortly after 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon, White Plains resident Joseph Joy entered the Stop & Shop location on North Broadway in North White Plains and attacked an employee with a knife, prompting several emergency 911 calls from her co-workers.
Joy, distracted by customers and staff, fled the store upon the arrival of North Castle police officers, and he was taken into custody without incident. Joy’s victim was transported to White Plains Hospital for treatment on non-life threatening injuries.
Police confirmed that Joy is a former employee of the Stop & Shop location and “this was not a random incident.”
Joy has been charged with felony charges of second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned in Town of North Castle Court and remains remanded to the Westchester County Jail. He is due back in court at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
