The Mamaroneck mom, 46, will be arraigned Tuesday. She is charged with second-degree murder.
A Mamaroneck Village judge ruled at a felony hearing Oct. 17 that there was sufficient cause to hold Morgado as a suspect in the murder of her 4-year-old son, Jason "Jake" Reish, and send the case to a grand jury.
Police found Morgado semi-conscious Oct. 1 in her Mamaroneck home. Jake was dead when police arrived. She gave her son Benadryl through a nozzle syringe, then put a mask on him that was attached to a helium tank, Det. Bernard McNally, of the Village of Mamaroneck Police Department testified at the felony hearing Oct. 17.
When that failed, Jason struggled, McNally said, so she took his hand and covered his mouth and nose, then put her weight on top of him with his face down into the pillow. She told McNally she “snuggled” him.
Morgado had been in a custody dispute with Jason's father, Dr. Timothy Reish, of Briarcliff Manor. She told police responding to her 1030 E. Post Road home Oct. 1 that she killed her son, McNally said.
“When asked what happened, she said, ‘no one will take him from me,’” he testified.
