Virginia Whitehead, 98, of White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Virginia Farinas McNally Whitehead of White Plains died Thursday, July 5. She was 98.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in White Plains, where she was a longtime parishioner.

She was born Feb. 22, 1914, in Birmingham, Ala., the third child of Judge Richard Powell McNally and Ellen Farinas McNally. Raised and educated in Birmingham, she married Edward Jenkins Whitehead.

The couple moved to Riverside Drive in Manhattan before settling on North Street in White Plains in the mid 1950s. Virginia Whitehead held secretarial positions at various companies and concluded her career as office manager of Robert A. Hill Inc. in New York City.

A longtime member of the Westchester Hills Golf Club, Whitehead and her husband, brother-in-law and sister-in-law were a familiar foursome at the club. She was a fan of the New York Mets and enjoyed golf, bridge and University of Alabama football.

She is survived by a brother-in-law, Syd Silverman; two nieces; and three nephews. Whitehead was predeceased by two sisters, Catherine McNally Holland and Jan McNally Silverman; a brother, Berry Farinas McNally; her husband; two sisters-in-law; and a brother-in-law.

A wake will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home in White Plains.
