Joseph Galeno, 83, White Plains Korean War Veteran

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Joseph Michael Galeno of White Plains died Jan. 4 in Valhalla. He was 83.

He was born May 3, 1929, in Bronx, N.Y., to Michael and Frances Galeno. Known as "Chuck," Galeno served in the Army during the Korean War. He married Mary Guire on Nov. 28, 1953.

Galeno worked as a driver and mechanic for the New York City Department of Sanitation. He was a member of the Elmsford Italian American Club for many years and was an avid handball player.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Michael (Marian), Frank (Suzanne) and Joseph (Claudia) Galeno; a brother, Daniel Galeno; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home in Elmsford. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Elmsford. Burial will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley, N.Y.
