Barry Curtis, 98, Of White Plains

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Barry Curtis of White Plains died July 20. He was 98.

A former Yonkers resident, Curtis worked as a car salesman before becoming a partner at Central Avenue Chrysler Plymouth.

Curtis was born March 17, 1914, in Tombstone, Ariz. He traveled the world starting at a young age and eventually settled in New York, where he worked at various business interests. In the late 1950s, Curtis worked at Grant Motors while living in Yonkers.

He was active in local politics and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. In 1974, Curtis moved to White Plains. He enjoyed painting and reading and was fond of opera, classical music and good wine. He also held a lifelong interest in creative writing, which he pursued in his later years.

Curtis is survived by two stepdaughters, Sharon Weber and Catherine Lepone; and two grandchildren. His wife, Margaret, died in May 2010.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in White Plains. Burial will follow at White Plains Rural Cemetery. Ballard-Durand Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
