WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- White Plains police say they were called to the Westchester Family Services building Wednesday to assist a teen stranded on the second floor fire escape, who staff said was locked out for safety reasons.
Officers said they discovered a 17-year-old girl attempting to break into the family services building via a second floor window at approximately 12:17 a.m. She was hovering a story above a shattered windowpane, which she told officers she smashed "to prove a point."
Police helped the teen crawl through the window and into the building, where officers said they learned a dispute over curfew prompted the teen to grab a cooking pot, walk out the back door and use the utensil to break the first floor window.
Staff said they then locked her out because they feared she might harm others. The teen responded by climbing up the fire escape and trying to open a second story window.
She was arrested and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

- Police arrested and charged two White Plains men with a felony after a Martine Avenue deli-owner said the pair smashed a $1,000 windowpane just before midnight Tuesday.
Officers said Morgan Davis, 25, and Conner Kerrigan, 23, were identified by the Anthony's Deli owner.
They were charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony.
- Michelle Pollack, 24, of New Rochelle, was detained by Target security Tuesday after police say she donned dozens of jewelry pieces and left the City Center store without paying.
A loss prevention employee told officers Pollack was seen selecting six necklaces, two packages of earrings and a bracelet, which she ripped the price tags off of and stashed in her purse.
She also hid craft beading and paint packages in her bag, according to police. Officers say she attempted to buy other merchandise, but her credit card was denied before she walked out with $179.60 of stolen goods.
Pollack was arrested and charged with petite larceny, a misdemeanor.
