Darla Palombo admitted she was a little nervous, but also excited and prepared when she stepped on the Westchester Skating Academy ice for her figure skating program. The five-year-old kindergarten student at Mamaroneck Avenue School in White Plains showed she was ready to skate to the challenge. Palombo turned in an excellent performance and came away with the silver medal in the Basic Three level.
Palombo completed her program and was in a good mood. Now the wait started as her fellow competitors skated their programs. I thought I did my best, she said. When the awards ceremony started, Palombo was excited about the possibility of winning a medal. When she heard her name announced as the silver medalist, the reaction was priceless. I was happy, just really happy, Palombo said.
Her father, Joe, was extremely proud of his daughter. This is his daughters second year competing and she has two medals. Last year, she won a gold medal, but moved up a level this year.
